The 4th gen Tacoma (2024+) moves to the TNGA-F platform — and with it comes a hub spec that's incompatible with every previous Tacoma generation. Same bolt pattern, everything else changed. Why 3rd Gen Tacoma Wheels Don't Fit the 4th Gen
Three changes happened simultaneously:
- Larger studs (M14 vs M12): The lug holes in 3rd gen wheels are sized for M12 hardware. The thicker M14 studs on the 4th gen won't pass through — old wheels need to be drilled out to fit, which is not recommended.
- Smaller centre bore (95.1mm vs 106.1mm): 3rd gen wheels have a larger 106.1mm bore. While a wheel with a larger bore can theoretically be fitted with hub-centric rings, the M14 stud problem still applies. You cannot fit a wheel with a smaller bore onto a larger hub at all.
- Different offset geometry: More on this below — the TNGA-F platform sits wider, which means the old ET0 "sweet spot" from 3rd gen now produces extreme poke on the 4th gen.

The Offset Trap — Why 3rd Gen Logic Doesn't Apply
On 3rd gen Tacomas, ET0 was widely considered the sweet spot for aftermarket builds — wheels sat flush with the fender edge, looking intentionally wide without excessive poke. That logic does not carry to the 4th gen.
The TNGA-F platform positions the hub further outboard relative to the body. Running ET0 on a 4th gen pushes the wheel 25–35mm beyond the fender line — far enough to be immediately visible and problematic without a lift and fender modification. What was flush on the 3rd gen is aggressive poke on the 4th gen.
ET+25 to +35 — Daily Driver Fitment
Sits slightly wider than stock without exceeding the fender line. Preserves stock suspension geometry. No lift required for 33" tyres at this offset. The cleanest choice for a truck that's primarily on road with occasional off-road use.
ET+12 to +18 — Off-Road Look
Slight poke beyond the fender edge — the aggressive stance associated with purpose-built off-road trucks. Requires a leveling kit for 34"+ tyres and crash plate removal. Works well with aftermarket fender flares if available for your trim.
ET0 and Below — Committed Build Only
Wheels protrude 25–35mm or more beyond the arch. Without a significant lift (3"+), deep-drop suspension modification, and trimming of bumper corners and inner arches, this offset causes contact at full steering lock and under suspension compression. Not a street build offset — this is for show trucks and dedicated builds.

285/70R17 is the most popular choice at this level — it's the sweet spot tyre that fits cleanly on stock height at ET+25, looks proportional on the 4th gen body, and works on road and trail. At ET0, this same tyre rubs at full lock in reverse — offset is not optional at stock height.
Tier 2 — 34" with Leveling Kit
Sizes: 285/75R17, 285/65R18, 295/60R18
Offset: ET+20 to +33
Lift required: 1.5–2" leveling kit
Mods required: Crash plate removal
The crash plates sit behind each front wheel — two bolts per side, fully removable in about five minutes. Removing them gains approximately 4 inches of clearance in the front arch, which is what makes 34" fitment clean without permanent modification. The plates are bolt-on and fully reversible, unlike previous generation Tacomas where similar brackets required cutting.
Tier 3 — 35" with Full Lift

At this size, alignment becomes critical — set caster as far forward as possible to centre the tyre in the arch and prevent contact with plastic trim at full lock. At ET+18 to +25, 35" clears properly on a 3" lift without body modification.
