The 992.2 Carrera is new enough that fitment data is essentially unpublished. It also runs one of the most unusual wheel specifications in production: a mixed-diameter staggered setup with a rear offset of ET+79 — a figure so far outside normal aftermarket practice that most catalogue wheels simply do not exist at that number. This guide covers the factory spec, the offsets that actually work, and why this car is a poor fit for off-the-shelf wheels.

Hardware Specs

  • Bolt pattern: 5×130
  • Centre bore: 71.6mm
  • Fastener: M14×1.5 lug bolts
  • Torque: 160 Nm

This applies to the Carrera, Carrera T, Carrera S, and Carrera 4S. Centre-lock models are a separate specification entirely and are not covered here.

Factory Wheel and Tyre Spec

  • Front: 20×8.5J ET+50 | 245/35 ZR20
  • Rear: 21×11.5J ET+79 | 305/30 ZR21

Two things about this specification deserve attention before anything else.

The Diameters Are Different

The front runs 20" and the rear runs 21". This is not a staggered width setup in the usual sense — it is a mixed-diameter staggered setup, and it is fundamental to how the car works. The rear-engine weight distribution places the majority of mass over the rear axle, and Porsche compensates with a rear tyre that is both dramatically wider (305 vs 245) and larger in diameter.

A square setup is not an option on this car. Neither is running matched diameters. The front and rear specifications are separate problems with separate answers, and any wheel order needs to treat them that way.

ET+79 Is Not a Normal Number

Rear offset of ET+79 on an 11.5J wheel is extreme by aftermarket standards. Most performance wheel catalogues top out in the ET+40 to ET+60 range for wide rear fitments, because that is what the majority of platforms require. The 992 sits well outside that window.

The consequence is practical: the number of catalogue wheels that exist in 21×11.5J at ET+79 is very small, and among those that do, the choice of design is limited to whatever a manufacturer decided to tool for the platform. Owners frequently end up either accepting a design they did not want, or accepting an offset that is approximately right and correcting it with spacers.

Offset Guide

Adding a spacer of X mm moves the wheel outboard by X mm — identical to reducing the wheel offset by X mm. The 992.2 Carrera's proven spacer setups therefore convert directly to forged wheel specifications:

Stock Suspension — ET+40 Front / ET+69 Rear

10mm outboard of factory on both axles, with no supporting modifications required. Factory ride height, factory alignment, no rubbing at any steering angle or suspension position. This closes the arch gap that the factory offsets leave and gives the car a more deliberate stance without changing anything about how it drives or sits.

For an owner who wants the car visually improved while keeping it completely standard underneath, this is the specification.

Lowered — ET+38 Front / ET+67 Rear

On a lowered car, the additional 2mm becomes available on each axle. The gain over the stock-height setup is small in isolation — but combined with the reduced ride height, the visual result is substantially different. Lowering closes the vertical gap while the offset closes the lateral one, and the two together are what produce a genuinely purposeful stance on a 911.

The order matters: lower the car first, then specify the wheel. Going the other direction leaves you with an offset chosen for a ride height the car no longer has.

Why Spacers Are the Wrong Tool Here Specifically

Spacers are a legitimate way to reach these positions, and owners do it successfully. But on the 992.2 there are two arguments against them that are stronger than usual.

The rear wheel is already at an extreme offset. Running an ET+79 wheel with a 12mm spacer means the assembly is carrying the full material depth of a very high-offset wheel plus a spacer, with the bolt working through both. Bolt length must be increased by exactly the spacer thickness to preserve thread engagement in the hub — and on a car generating the cornering loads a 911 does through a 305-section rear tyre, that joint is not the place for approximate calculation.

Mass at the rear axle is already the car's defining characteristic. The 911's rear-biased weight distribution is what gives it traction and what makes it demanding at the limit. Adding rotational mass at the outermost point of the rear wheels works directly against the chassis balance Porsche engineers around. A forged wheel at the correct offset achieves the same track width while removing weight rather than adding it — 30–40% lighter than a comparable cast wheel at the same dimensions.

On most cars this is a marginal argument. On a rear-engine 911 running 21" rear wheels, unsprung and rotational mass at the rear axle is a genuine handling parameter.

Brake Clearance — Check the Option Code

The 992.2 Carrera range spans several brake specifications, and they are not equivalent for wheel design purposes:

  • Standard cast iron on the Carrera and Carrera T
  • Larger discs and callipers on the Carrera S and 4S
  • PSCB (Porsche Surface Coated Brakes) — tungsten carbide coated, with distinctive white callipers
  • PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes) — the largest option, yellow callipers

PCCB in particular occupies significantly more of the wheel's internal volume than the standard system. A spoke profile designed around a Carrera's standard brakes will not necessarily clear a Carrera S with PCCB, despite identical bolt pattern, offset, and diameter.

Declare the exact brake specification at the order stage. On a custom forged wheel this is a design input rather than a compatibility gamble — the spoke curve is drawn around the actual calliper, which means the concavity can be as deep as the brake allows and no deeper.

Carrera 4S — The Front Axle Drives

On the 4S, the front axle transmits drive as well as steering. This does not change the fitment specification, but it does change how much the front wheel's weight matters. Rotational mass at a driven axle affects acceleration response directly, and the front wheels on a 4S are doing work that the rear-drive cars' front wheels are not.

The practical implication is that on a 4S, the weight argument for forged construction applies to both axles rather than primarily the rear.

Tyre Sizing

The factory 245/35 ZR20 front and 305/30 ZR21 rear are correctly matched to the 8.5J and 11.5J rim widths, and there is no strong case for deviating. Both sizes are available across current ultra-high-performance and track-oriented ranges, and the front-to-rear relationship is calibrated to the car's weight distribution — altering one end without the other changes the balance in ways that are unlikely to be improvements.

At the offsets described above, staying with factory tyre sizes is also the safer clearance choice. The additional track width is coming from the offset; adding section width on top compounds the demand at the arch without contributing meaningfully to grip.

Recommended Specification

For a stock-height 992.2 Carrera:

  • Front: 20×8.5J ET+40 with 245/35 ZR20
  • Rear: 21×11.5J ET+69 with 305/30 ZR21
  • Bore: 71.6mm hub-centric
  • Hardware: M14×1.5, 160 Nm
  • Suspension: Factory — no modifications

For a lowered car, take the front to ET+38 and the rear to ET+67.
