Audi RS6 C8 Wheel Fitment Guide — Offsets, the 21-Inch Floor, and Why Air Suspension Changes the Spec
The RS6 C8 carries some of the largest brakes fitted to any production car, a factory-widened body that shares almost nothing with a standard A6, and air suspension that changes ride height by more than 30mm depending on mode and coding. Each of those facts constrains wheel choice in a way that catalogue specifications rarely account for. This guide covers all three, plus the offsets that actually work.

Conical Seat — the Easy Part of This Car
The RS6 uses 60° conical seat lug bolts from the factory, which is also what the overwhelming majority of aftermarket wheels are machined for. This makes hardware straightforward compared to platforms that ship with ball seat bolts — factory bolts are generally correct for an aftermarket wheel, provided the shaft length and bolt head style suit the new wheel's bore.
Two things still need checking. The bolt must be long enough to achieve full thread engagement in the hub, and if any spacer is fitted, the length must increase by exactly the spacer thickness. And the bolt head has to sit correctly in the wheel's bolt well — some forged designs use a deeper or narrower well that requires a slimmer head profile than the factory bolt.

The RS6 Runs a Square Setup
This is unusual for a car of this performance level and it is worth understanding before specifying wheels. Both axles run identical wheels and identical tyres — 10.5J width and 275 section all round.
This is a consequence of the quattro drivetrain: the RS6 sends significant torque to the front axle, and the front tyres need the same contact patch as the rear to make use of it. A staggered setup would starve the front axle of grip in exactly the conditions where the drivetrain is trying to use it.
The practical benefit is that tyres can be rotated front to rear, which meaningfully extends tyre life on a 2,150kg car with 600hp. Do not convert an RS6 to a staggered setup — it works against how the car is engineered to put power down.
The 21-Inch Floor
The RS6 cannot run wheels below 21 inches. This is not a stance preference — it is a physical brake clearance limit, and it is unusually hard.
- Standard steel brakes: 420×40mm front rotors with 10-piston fixed Akebono callipers
- Carbon-ceramic option: 440×40mm rotors, also 10-piston — among the largest brakes fitted to any production car
Both systems require a genuine 21" minimum. A 20" wheel will not clear the calliper on either specification, regardless of spoke design or offset.
Diameter alone is not sufficient either. A 10-piston calliper is long in the direction of rotation and deep across the rotor face — it occupies a large arc of the wheel's internal volume, not just a small section of it. Tight-spoke designs can foul it even at 21", and this is true of the steel system as well as the ceramic one. The spoke profile has to be designed around the actual calliper rather than assumed to clear on diameter alone.
Offset Guide
The factory ET+19 leaves visible space between the tyre and the fender edge, particularly given how much the RS6's widened arches project. Aftermarket practice on this car sits in the ET+7 to ET+17 range.

Why 22×10.5 Is the Sweet Spot
The RS6 Avant is a long car with a wide body and a substantial visual mass over the rear axle. At 21", the factory wheel is proportionally correct but conservative — it reads as adequate rather than intentional.
Stepping to 22×10.5 changes the proportions in the direction the body is already pointing. The arch is filled, the sidewall reduces to a level that matches the car's aggression, and the wheel face becomes a visual element rather than a functional necessity. Critically, this can be achieved on stock air suspension without any suspension modification, which is not true of most cars where a 22" upgrade demands supporting changes.
Keeping the 10.5J width is deliberate. The RS6's arches accommodate the additional diameter comfortably; adding width on top of it is where clearance problems begin.
Tyre Sizing for 22-Inch Wheels
The factory 275/35 R21 has a rolling diameter of approximately 726mm. Matching that on a 22" wheel keeps the speedometer, the ABS calibration, and the quattro system's wheel-speed comparison operating within their expected range.
285/30 R22 is the closest match — approximately 730mm rolling diameter, within half a percent of factory. This is the correct default on a 22×10.5J.
295/30 R22 is a wider option at approximately 736mm, roughly 1.4% larger than factory. Workable, but it is the point at which fender clearance becomes sensitive to ride height and offset together rather than independently. If running 295 section, stay at the conservative end of the offset range or verify clearance at the car's lowest air suspension setting before committing.
Air Suspension — The Detail That Changes the Spec
The RS6's air suspension is genuinely useful here: it gives real scope to adjust ride height without compromising daily usability. VCDS coding allows drops of up to approximately 32mm, and builds range from completely stock to fully lowered.
But it also introduces a constraint that fixed-suspension cars do not have. The car does not sit at one height. It lowers at speed, it lowers further in Dynamic mode, and it can be coded lower still. A flush fitment calculated in the driveway at normal ride height is not the fitment the car has at 160 km/h on a motorway.
Two rules follow:
Calculate clearance at the car's lowest height, not its normal one. The fender edge moves down relative to the tyre as the car lowers, and the widest part of the tyre shoulder moves toward it. If the clearance is marginal at rest, it is contact when the suspension drops.
Decide the coding before specifying the wheel. If a VCDS drop is planned, apply it first and specify the offset for the car as it will sit. Choosing ET+7 for a car at stock height and then coding it 32mm lower afterwards produces contact that no alignment change will resolve.
Widebody — RS6 Wheels Do Not Transfer to an A6
The RS6 C8 is a factory widebody. The front and rear arches are physically wider than those on a standard A6 or S6, and the track width is correspondingly greater.
An RS6 wheel at ET+19 mounted on a standard A6 protrudes well beyond the narrower fender. In the other direction, A6 wheels on an RS6 sit deeply recessed inside the widened arch and look visually wrong. The 5×112 bolt pattern is shared widely across the C8 range, but the geometry is not — specify wheels for the RS6 specifically, not for the C8 platform generally, and not by borrowing a spec from another RS model.
Weight — A Real Consideration at This Mass
The RS6 C8 weighs approximately 2,150kg. Adding 22" wheels increases rotational and unsprung mass at exactly the point where the car is already working hardest — the air suspension is managing a heavy body, and the brakes are decelerating it.
A cast 22×10.5 wheel is a substantial component. The same wheel in forged construction runs 30–40% lighter at identical dimensions, and on a four-wheel set that difference is significant enough to be felt in steering response and in how quickly the dampers settle the body over uneven surfaces. On a car where the entire engineering premise is making 2,150kg behave like something lighter, giving weight back at the wheels works against the design intent.
This is the strongest practical argument for forged construction on the RS6 specifically: the upgrade to 22" is visually correct for the car, but only a forged wheel lets you make it without a weight penalty.
